Water damage can occur from a roof leak, appliance failure, or burst pipes. Although this damage can usually be identified quickly, the worst situations happen when a slow or hidden leak goes unnoticed, leading to sagging ceilings or at worst bad mold issues when the problem is discovered. Always keep an eye out for discoloration or dark spots in walls and ceilings, as these can be early signs of water being absorbed by drywall. By the time you can visibly see bowing in ceilings, you have a serious problem that if unresolved will eventually collapse. If you see bowing in a ceiling, cut a small hole with a bucket underneath to relieve the pressure and identify the source of the problem.
